Baby Bao is one of our favourite places to eat in Brighton, so working with Adrian and team was an absolute pleasure. We refreshed the brand, designed and built a website on Shopify, and shot some stunning food photography which is used liberally throughout the site.
Their residency at The Pond in Brighton’s North Laine has always been a success, and continues to go from strength to strength but it was time for some investment into some design and their own online presence.
We kept the panda, which had become synonymous with the brand but beefed up the weight of the outline. We replaced the lightweight typeface, which carries through to the website and played around with the positioning of the type around the panda itself.
The bao were mouthwatering, the loaded chips were begging to be eaten, and the sharing sides all looked delicious too.
We shot most of the dishes from the current menu, making sure there was a mix of landscape spreads for use on the website, as well as individual hero shots for some of the fan favourites from the menu, which lend themselves better to usage on social media as well as the website.
Firstly, a landing page for Baby Bao @ The Pond was necessary to display the current menu, along with kitchen operating hours. A template using custom sections was built, allowing the team to manage and easily update the menu in-house after launch.
Baby Bao has a cult local following, so the ability to sell some branded merch online was an important consideration. Shopify is ideal for this, and once merch goes live, customers will have the option to collect their order from The Pond and who knows, maybe stop for a drink and some food too.
The website also gives Baby Bao the opportunity to start building a mailing list. Again, something they’ve never had before. This will help them to promote events, menu specials, new merch and so on.
